Miss Kacie Jess


Kacie joined GFT in February 2019 after graduating with a BSc Hons in Animal Biology from the University of Stirling. She worked with GFT each summer between 2019 - 2024, and for the rest of the year travelled the world including Australia, New Zealand, south east Asia and Japan.

Kacie stayed on at GFT throughout 2024 and took up a permanent post at GFT from early 2025.  She is particularly experienced in electrofishing surveys, managing databases, invertebrate analysis and project management.

She is a local girl having grown up in Newton Stewart. She enjoys scuba diving, gaming and being outdoors.

Sampling Freshwater Macroinvertebrate

Freshwater invertebrates are relatively common within rivers and burns. They include groups such as insects, molluscs (snails), crustaceans (shrimps) and annelids (worms), amongst others.

6 month paid internship with GFT

A paid internship is available from April 2025 for 6 months to work with Galloway Fisheries Trust on the Solway Invasive Non Native Species (INNS) Control and Knowledge programme Phase 2.
