Galloway Fisheries Trust is a conservation charity working on fish populations, their habitats and water quality across the freshwaters of Galloway.  The successful applicant will be involved in delivering a range of research, conservation and community engagement projects.

Key items of work that the intern will assist with delivering include:

Projects to enhance riparian / instream habitats
A salmon smolt tracking project on the Kirkcudbrightshire Dee
Fish survey work

Delivering their own fisheries project (theme to be agreed between intern/GFT)
Learning how to make freshwater habitats more resilient to climate change
Producing educational material for use in local schools

The candidate must be fit, motivated, hardworking and willing to work outdoors during all weather conditions.  There may be a requirement to undertake some lone working from time to time.  A full valid driving licence is desirable but not essential.  The position will be based at Newton Stewart.

This full time, fixed term intern post is a wonderful opportunity for a recent graduate with a conservation, fisheries or ecology degree to gain a range of valuable work experience.  We will consider applications from any young person who can show that the internship would help develop or further their career in the Conservation Sector.  It is a funding condition that the intern must be a young person aged up to (and including) 25 years old and preference will be given to suitable applicants from Dumfries and Galloway.

Salary will be £381.50/week.  GFT are a ‘Fair Work Employer’.  There is also a good trainig and clothing budget included.

Closing date for applications is 5:00pm on 25th January 2023.

Face to face interviews plan to be held on Friday 3th February 2022 in Newton Stewart.
