Miss Alyx Rhodes


Alyx recently completed a BSc in Ecology and Conservation at the University of Lincoln. She moved up to Newton Stewart to get work experience as a 6 month intern at GFT which finished in February 2023. She is now working at GFT as an Assistant Biologist.

Alyx has alway been a keen volunteer, including as an Animal Care Assistant for the RSPCA and a Wildlife Volunteer Assistant at Doddington Hall and Gardens.  

Alyx is totally obsessed with and extremely knowledgeable about moths!

Her internship is funded by Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership and The Holywood Trust.

Kirkcowan Fishing Competition

On Saturday 26th August we held our annual Kirkcowan Fishing Competition. 35 adults and 12 juniors entered the competition this year, providing a fund of £211 that is put back into the event via prizes and a buffet.

Its insect week!

Riparian zones bridge the gap between land and river, creating an important habitat for insects while also providing shade and protection against erosion. We do a lot of habitat work mainly to help aquatic species like fish, but we are keen to monitor and understand the wider biodiversity benefits.
