IBIS and the Atlantic Salmon Trust hosted an excellent two-day conference which GFT staff attended. A host of first-rate speakers were invited to present papers and research on various aspects of salmon stocking. The conference was well attended by interested parties from many fish related backgrounds: researchers, conservation organisations, fisheries managers, anglers and DSFBs. Topics covered in presentations ranged from the “Genetic parentage analysis of hatchery contribution of Atlantic salmon on the River Spey”, to, “Stocking in Northern Ireland: an angler’s perspective”, to, “How salmon populations work – an explanation of salmon stock dynamics”. The whole conference including Q&A and discussion sessions was videoed and will shortly be available to view on the IBIS website. Watch this space.
